Marquise Cut

Approximate carat weight of a Marquise Cut diamond=Length x Width x Depth x 0.0058
The above weight formula provides an estimate. The actual weight may vary up to 10%, depending on the make, girdle thickness, and accuracy of the measurement tools.
The Marquise shape diamond is one of the most popular fancy shapes.
A nice make for a Marquise Cut is one where a 2:1 ratio exists, meaning the length is twice the width. A 1.8:1 ratio is considered to be a fatter, heavier shape and a 2.2:1, thinner and skinnier. (See Table and Depth Percentage Formulas.)

A Bow Tie is the reflection of the facets from the pavilion of a diamond which appears through the table. It looks like a shadow or dark area in the shape of a man's bow tie in the center of the Marquise. To eliminate this effect, special pavilion facets are cut which the industry calls the "French Culet".
