As a young man growing up in Romania, it would have been impossible to predict that Eugene Biro would eventually find himself at the top of the diamond world in New York City.

Eugene began his education in Romania in engineering but was forced to postpone his studies in 1966 when his family fell on hard times. Biro then immigrated to Israel at the urging of his uncle to find work to support himself and his parents. In Israel, Biro found work as an apprentice diamond cutter.

Over the next few years, Biro would learn the diamond business and managed to continue his engineering studies at Israel's prestigious Technion College. While in Israel he also would experience first-hand the ravages of war by serving in the Israeli air force during 1967's Six Day War and the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

In 1974, Biro immigrated to the United States with his wife and baby daughter. He began working as a diamond cutter in the world famous Diamond District on 47th Street in Manhattan. In the same year, he went back to school again - this time at City College of New York, where he persevered in the study of engineering.

For the next four years, Biro worked for various diamond cutting firms before finally deciding that a career in the jewelry business would be more lucrative than a career in engineering.

Although he never got his engineering diploma, he used his engineering background to keep his business on the cutting edge of technology. This gave him a competitive advantage that allowed the company to grow and prosper, even during times of market volatility and economic recession.

In 1995, Biro went back to college, not as a student, but as a guest lecturer. Biro was invited to speak about the diamond market at Harvard University during a special course offered to CFOs and CEOs from major international corporations.
